I love using real honey in my recipes.

Not only is honey a delicious, naturally sweet ingredient that has so many nutritional benefits, using honey in your dishes helps support honey bees which are a super important part of our natural ecosystem.

I partnered with the National Honey Board to help spread awareness about protecting and supporting bees. One of the best ways to support these ecoheroes is to use honey in your recipes when you cook!

If you’re not using honey in your recipes, here are some things you should consider:

  • Research has shown that honey contains a wide array of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants.
  • Because honey is slightly sweeter than sugar, you can use less to achieve the same amount of sweetness in a dish.
  • Honey is a natural source of carbohydrates, providing 17 grams per tablespoon, which makes it a great natural energy source for your body.
  • There are actually many different types of honey.
  • You can learn more about the benefits of honey and the importance of bees here.

I love using honey to flavor my tea, drizzle on fruit and toast, and in a variety of recipes that are sweet and savory. I try to incorporate raw honey and local honey into my cooking routine on a regular basis and, when I travel, I like to visit farmers’ markets to get local, good quality honey.

It has definitely become a pantry staple in my home.

This hot honey sauce is a spicy sauce perfect to drizzle on roasted veggies and pairs perfectly with my Baked Nashville Hot Chicken.

What foods do you put hot honey sauce on?

Hot honey sauce is a versatile condiment with simple ingredients to add to countless dishes. It has quickly become my favorite hot sauce.

It’s quick and easy to make and goes well with foods that are both meant to be sweet or savory.

I like to drizzle hot honey sauce on:

  • baked or fried chicken
  • air fryer chicken wings
  • roasted vegetables
  • grilled ham
  • salad dressing
  • homemade biscuits
  • my cracked shrimp
  • vanilla ice cream
  • a charcuterie board
  • a cheese plate
  • Brussels sprouts and other fresh veggies
  • fruit salad

What ingredients are in hot honey sauce?

The main ingredient in hot honey sauce is, of course, honey!

To make my hot honey sauce, you start with 1 cup of honey.

You will also need:

  • 1/3 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

You can adjust the heat level by increasing or decreasing the cayenne. Whether you like high heat, medium heat, or just a kick of heat, this homemade hot honey recipe is perfect for you.

How do you make hot honey sauce?

The best part about the hot honey sauce recipe is that it’s so simple. In less than ten minutes you can have your own hot honey sauce made from scratch.

To make the sauce, add all of the ingredients to a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.

Remove from heat and cool. Once the sauce is cool, skim sugar and honey off the top and store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Then you can add this spicy condiment to your favorite foods whenever you want.
