A Spicy NYE

As the holiday season whirls to its big finish on New Year’s Eve, I’m checking the pantry for ideas of what to nibble and sip as we wait for the ball to drop. Luckily, I stocked up with some fun products from Mouth.com which I’ll be putting to good use, just as I did last week with my Impromptu Holiday Party. Whether you’re hosting a glitzy gathering or hanging out in your footie pajamas in front of the tv, New Year’s Eve is a perfect time to be festive and have fun.

I recently told Food & Wine about the salt-and-pepper butter crackers and pimento cheese that I like to make for my family at Christmas, so I’ve given that same idea a new twist for my New Year’s Eve celebration, with One-Bite Black Pepper Biscuits that are split and then filled with French Pimento Cheese — a spicy cheese mixture elevated with Piment d’Espelette, a mildly hot French red pepper, often found in Basque recipes, that is dried and ground like paprika. I’m pairing it with a Pineapple Vinegar Mocktail (yes, you heard that right — I said vinegar) that provides a refreshing counterpoint to the rich cheesy hors d’oeuvres.

Wishing you a very happy New Year, filled with the promise of good things to come!
